Benefits of All on 4

All on 4 diagram, illustrationHere at Durham Prosthodontics we conduct the All-on-4 treatment procedure on fully edentulous patients. The All-on-4 Treatment concept dates back to 1998 when Dr. Paulo Malo first treated a patient with the concept. Hundreds of thousands have undergone treatment using the All-on-4 treatment concept since then. The concept has become a treatment option for many people who have lost their teeth and a significant part of their jawbone.

The All-on-4 treatment is used when the patient needs full jaw dentures or bridges but has lost most of their jawbone. Four implants are planted towards the front of the jaw. The implants are placed with a tilt, and they support a full arch denture or bridge.

Benefits of All-on-4 Concept

After being without teeth for a while, you will start losing your jawbone. It starts shrinking into the empty tooth sockets. Under such circumstances, our dentists recommend a bone graft procedure before dental implants are placed. However, at times, the loss is so significant that a bone graft procedure would be complicated. It also takes quite a while to recover from the procedure so that you can get your implants.

As such, the next available option becomes the All-on-4 treatment. You will not have to endure the grafting procedure, and you get the implants and the prosthetic dentures or bridges on the same day.

The front part of the jawbone is always dense and does not shrink easily. It will remain even as the rest of your jawbone shrinks. Implants can be planted securely into it. Two of the implants (anterior) are planted straight, while the other two (posterior) are placed at a 45-degree tilt. This makes it possible to provide a full-arch rehabilitation.

In general, you will endure shorter treatment duration, incur fewer costs, and leave our dentist's office with a full-arch prosthesis. The All-on-4 treatment concept allows patients to leave our dentist's office feeling confident about the way they look.

The Procedure

The All-on-4 treatment is a surgical procedure, and our dentists will first need to check your dental and general health condition to determine whether you are eligible for it. The procedure involves opening up your gums to access the jawbone.

Our specialist will then place the anterior and posterior implants. As mentioned earlier, the anterior implants are planted straight, while the posterior implants are planted at an angle. Your gums will then be stitched up, and denture or bridge attached.

There must be prior appointments before the procedure so that our dentist can ensure your prosthetics are ready on the day of the surgery. The procedure provides you with a robust set of teeth, and their appearance is quite natural and attractive. Nobody would be able to tell that you have prosthetic teeth. The teeth also help with your speech and pronunciation.
