Anterior Bridges

Rendering of jaw with dental bridge. Here at Durham Prosthodontics we provide perfect anterior bridges to ensure you leave feeling attractive and confident. Anterior bridges are bridges that are placed on the front teeth, particularly the incisors and the canines. These bridges are often used when you have lost a couple of your front teeth. Just like with any other kind of anterior teeth prosthetics, aesthetics are very important. The shape and color of the bridge are paramount.

Anterior bridges might be necessitated by either lost or damaged anterior teeth. They are normally used when the damage to the teeth is significant, and they cannot be repaired to stand on their own. The cosmetic effect of the bridges is incredible. The bridges can improve the color and shape of your anterior teeth.

Damaged Teeth

Your teeth could be damaged by impact or tooth decay. Impacts can heavily fracture or break your anterior teeth. Although decay is not very common on anterior teeth, it still happens. Such significant damage cannot be repaired by simple methods such as veneers.

Our dentist will first prepare the damaged teeth for the bridge. If the teeth are still strongly rooted, he/she will just shape them into abutments so that the bridge can be attached. The natural teeth themselves will be used as anchors for the bridge.

At times, the teeth are very weak and cannot support the bridge. Our dentist will either strengthen them or opt to remove them if they cannot be salvaged. If the teeth are not strong enough to hold the bridge, the perfect teeth adjacent to the damaged teeth are used as anchors for the bridge. In such instances, the adjacent tooth on each side of the gap is shaped into an abutment.

Lost Teeth

If you have been unfortunate and have lost your teeth, our dentist might opt to fit dental implants for you. This is normally done when all the other anchor options are deemed not strong enough. Dental implants, especially on the anterior jaw, are very strong. They will hold the bridge quite robustly.

The need for dental implants makes the process a bit longer, however. You have to undergo the dental implant placement procedure and it takes a while to recover from the procedure so that the bridge can be attached. Our dentists will cover the area with soft and temporary bridges as you recover.

The final results of an anterior bridge placement procedure are always worth the trouble. The bridge is normally made of porcelain or ceramic. These materials are strong, and the bridges will be durable. They also blend in well with the color of your natural teeth. You end up with a perfectly contoured anterior dental structure and functional prosthetic teeth.
